Super 1 is not cheap, more expensive than club racing. Traveling, time, accommodation and making sure your kits is up together.
What has not been mentioned is that you get to race against people from all over the country that you would most probably not race against at your local track. It is over 6 rounds or so, and Super 1 do this very well. Top people doing the scrutineering and clerking to see that all is as it should be.
The one off Kartmasters, O plates or TKM festival are one shot meetings, winner takes all, 2nd is first of the losers etc. and is a completely different beast. Also more expensive than club racing.
You cut your clothe according to your wallet. The more competitive classes require more wallet. Much of the moaning about cost is down to the economic times. My motoX track gets barely 50 riders on a Sunday practice when pre 2008 that would have been 120 to 150. 3 Clubs have cancelled race meetings due to lack of entries.
Having regional S1 would suit me as traveling is a major 'bore' now, but it would simply, probably, reduce the entries per meeting to a level where it would not be practical to run them.
We all need more readys in our back pockets, but then that is getting into politics.....
