Nik doesn't seem to agree: he seems to be arguing that 'release' is the moment when the 4th tyre finally RE-contacts the track. That's the opposite of your stated view.
However, your view would imply that 'release' occurs when the inner rear tyre 'disconnects'. That would be during the initial turn-in phase as that is when you apply lock and thus the caster-effect comes into play and the reduced ground-pressure acts as our 'diff.'.
As you know, I think 'release' is a silly name for 'over-coming understeer'. However, I've not heard many others argue that 'release' occurs at the START of a corner as THEY always seem to suggest that 'release' occurs in one of the FINAL phases of the corner, not as you imply, the initial turn-in.
That's one of my main points: no one seems to agree on what this term 'release' means: what it is, what it does nor even WHEN it occurs. When there are SO many variations of this 'release' thing, then I doubt it's the SAME thing for each of the karters using the word.... and thus useless as a description. It's about as useful as the word 'spiritual': no two people EVER agree what THAT word means! We all agree on the meanings of the words, understeer, oversteer, lock, traction, grip, handling, braking, etc. and thus THEY are useful terms. 'Release'..... ISN'T!
