This was the response that I recieved to an email I sent to Rowrah after bank holiday racing and in particular to a 10/11/12? year old child waving the chequered flag at the end of practice for a MSA event. The child was "supervised" by a pitlane marshal who was never any closer than 20' from the flag waver. (if the marshall had been beside the child it would have been acceptable)
My son had been "messing around" with the flag waving lad all weekend and his words when he came off the circuit were I didn't know if...... was meant to be waving the flag or was messing around again
I have to ask myself - what hope do we have?
Thank you for your e-mail.
At Cumbria Kart Racing Club we have always encouraged youngsters who are willing to help in any way and, indeed, previous youngsters have now grown to be actively involved in the Club in scrutineering, race control, the canteen and the marshalling.
Without these people, the meetings at our club cannot go ahead.
In this, and all instances where children are involved, they are fully supervised at all times and having seen his enthusiastic waving of the flag and commitment to the job involved, I cannot see anyone misintepreting the fact that the chequered flag was out.
Indeed we do run to MSA rules and regulations and when under permit strictly adhere to these, however on a practice day we are not under permit, we are under our own comprehensive insurance and regulations which are also strictly adhered to.
