Only just getting into this sport with my 7 year old, so just practicing at the moment really.
I'm just starting to realise how expensive this sport is going to be! It's a shame really, most sports have a governing body, like the FA for example that actively seeks out young talent to bring through. Unfortunately in our sport those talented drivers on a dad and lad team with very limited or non existent budgets are just not competitive so can't get a look I'm really. To get a true measure of talent it would seem to be better to have restricted budgets, say one race and one practice frame, and the same for engines, rebuilds only allowed at certain frequencies etc. With new classes next year it would seem like a good time to introduce this sort of thing. What does everyone think? Grass roots ruined by money or enhanced?
As a side note I read with great interest about the new rotax academy 'afordable racing' acording to the blurb aimed squarely at limited budget teams. It's 800ukp a race. They are right that would severely limit my budget! What planet are they on?
I'm going to stop ranting now or this might get very long!
