From my own experience as a dad & lad against the teams in S1 and the GP plate recently. I can say that our engine is right up their with the top boys. Where we lose out is the data that the teams have and the speed they can react (with many drivers) when the weather changes. So having a pooled engine will make little difference.

So if the teams run in the 'pooled engine' class there will be no difference to todays system.

If pooled engines AND Dad & Lads only, then that WOULD make a difference...But that will never happen.
