Whilst I can understand the point being made by Traxtar and Mr Kasch I think the point is answered by reading the regulations from Three Sisters. For simplicity here is the paragraphs of interest:

'As we hope you will appreciate the prospect of “Grass Roots” racing with no regulations may be appealing but history has proved that unless some basic regulations are implemented and enforced, true racing is lost by the competitive nature that is motorsport. The following regulations are in place to try and support two fundamental points:

1. Safety for competitors
2. Parity for racing.

Every effort has been made to make the rules as light weight and un-restrictive as possible and whilst trying to establish a degree of parity where people of varying skill sets and budgets can race together. We have eliminated as a much red tape as possible but retained the fundamental requirements to try and achieve the points above.

'Eligibility

Both MSA license holders and non-license holders will be allowed to enter, subject to the technical rules outlined. MSA drivers are reminded that the IKR Championship is in no way sanctioned by the MSA.'

--------------------------------

The way I see it, it's Three Sisters that set the rules, not the drivers. Three Sisters wants a Championship that will appeal to both MSA License holders and IKR racers, the only way they will achieve this is to have rules that are recognised by MSA racers. Because of this it's inevitable the words 'as per MSA' will be used in the regulations. Any MSA racer will not want to race if they have to heavily modify their kart to make it competitive.

It must be noted however that whilst some of the rules are based on the MSA's rules it is certainly far from the truth to say the series is based on MSA regulations. The key point here is this sentence:

'MSA chassis homologations regulations do not apply'

There are lots of other 'big' MSA rules that don't apply with the Three Sisters Championship. Here's some of them:

- Any Full Face Motorbike helmet
- Engine telemetry data to be allowed
- No License required
- Bambino racing
- Unsealed engines

So you can see these aren't 'minor' differences.

It also must be noted that although Three Sisters has taken this approach to try and appeal to both types of racer, well Hooton certainly hasn't. Hooton Park is more of a 'pure' form of IKR that doesn't have any rules or regulations (with the exception of Bambino and Cadets).

It also must be noted that the majority of the class regulations, specifically engine regulations will have been decided by the manufacturer, not by the MSA and as such would be the same no matter who's championship you would be racing in. Let's say you had a championship racing Ferrari's, well who do you think would set the engine regulations? The championship organisers don't have the knowledge, time or resources to test engines and come up with a specific engine fiche. So it would be wrong to say the MSA should take credit for the engine fiche. In short it should be called the manufacturers fiche, not the MSA's engine fiche.

Three Sisters has attempted to offer something different to what the MSA provides and different to what Hooton IKR provides. For me it seems like a meet half way approach.

In my opinion I'm pretty happy with it. It would be nice to have our own tyres rather that use tyres that the MSA imports as we will be supporting the MSA just by buying these tyres and personally I've lost all interest in MSA racing and don't wish to pay any more of my money towards it. But on the whole I think they have done a good job here, it's different from Hooton's IndiKart and it's different from the MSA. They definitely get a thumbs up from me : )

P.S - anybody noticed the sprint finish on the club circuit that is going to be using the perimeter circuit for the final 2 laps?

Chris.
