At suggestion of local CoC I emailed the MSA, and a very helpful chap called Stuart Haviland replied.
Rules are not written very well, but the gist is that as I last held a National B license in 2007 (I did a one-off race) I can apply within the 5 year rule to renew the license. I can also prove via web results that I had completed 5 races as a novice on more than one track i.e. 4 races at one track, and 1 at another, so this means I will not restart as a novice off the back.
If I'd left it one more year then I'd have had to start from the beginning.
The requirement for me then is to pass only the written ARKs test at around £50, and the normal license fee. So a saving of more than £100 there.
So humble pie on my part, and big thanks to Stuart at the MSA
My company medical scheme has agreed to add a couple of items to the annual medical to cover the MSA requirement, so that's £180 saved annually.
