Be aware that things that you would think would never prevent the axle / fittings from moving often will.

So it is worth cleaning the axle of all rust, scratch marks and dints caused by things striking the axle.

The burr on a scratch or the bruise from a dint are well able to make removing the axle difficult.

Alloy / steel interfaces will weld themselves together through corrosion. When you start moving the Brake disc, you may find this to be the case.

Never hit the end of the axle with a hard hammer. Use a mandrel. You can make a temporary mandrel by bolting a piece of old axle to a piece of wood that will just fit up the inside of you on kart axle.

Then you can beat hell out of the piece of wood without damaging the end of your axle.

Regularly oiling, cleaning and removing your axle will pay dividends on the day you need to replace a bent one between heats.
