But according to some on here cleaning tyres with a heat gun is lethal and everybody is in great danger.

I am in no doubt that using a heat gun to clean tyres is against the rules. I would also agree that if a rule is written then it should be applied, individual club's should not be deciding which rules to apply and which to ignore.

However, to claim it's all to do with safety whilst people are still allowed to wander around the paddock smoking is plainly nonsense, so I'll go back to where I started: It's a badly worded rule that needs changing because badly worded rules are damaging to the sport.
