I'd imagine he was being sarcastic, but if not could be for one of a few reasons:

1) He's one of very few respecting the track boundaries;
2) Low budget so can't afford to keep replacing chassis that break so easily;
3) Races for fun therefore doesn't need to risk the damage;
4) Circuit might not have kerbs.
