I would imagine a reason for not giving the current entry list is to discourage people withdrawing support from undersubscribed classes early - if everyone sees that Class X has only 4-5 entries, remaining drivers may not bother to enter on the assumption that either
a) They dont want to run a costly national season fighting with just a smattering of competitors b) The class will be cancelled anyway
The usual line is to say dozens/hundreds have subscribed without giving specifics - doesn't always work though, as we have lost TKM 4/, Inters, KF2, Rotax DD2 and others in recent years
Deviating from your original point slightly, I would have thought it would be preferable given the general financial hardship facing the karting community at the moment to reduce the costs to circa-2009 levels i.e. - No TV coverage (which brought £65 entry hike per meeting) - Return to 6 rounds (cutting costs by 1/7th, several hundred pounds at least) - Return to paying last 2 rounds up front instead of 3, or at least moving the deadline to later in the season (so that you dont pay several hundred extra in one go at the start of the year) etc. etc.
I know that the organisers want to turn a profit, but giving a little back while times are tough may see a resurgance in entries that outweighs the per-driver reduction in profit
I've seen many drivers be priced out of the nationals in recent years, we only have been able to cling on through the benevolence of friends and family
I know that now the higher costs are here, they're here to stay, but we can dream :)
