Different tracks have different insurance cover for practice days, commercial circuits will have annual commercial and third party insurance. For a circuit like SYKC which is a non commercial venture to keep insurance cover to an acceptable level for the limited number of days we practice outside of MSA cover (which currently stands at appx £500/day) it is a pre-requisite from our insurers that we comply fully with MSA blue book on a practice day on all issues.
If we did not comply and had an incident which required insurers involvement then I would expect that they would look for any reason not to cover us.
Its the same reason why we have to be very controlled about Bambino's and age of drivers.
Like all things there is always more to a situation than appears on the surface.
It would be nice if people got more involved and asked questions or volunteered to help, then more people would understand how complicated it is to run a club.
To be honest the longer I am involved the harder it is to justify putting all the time in as I get sick of the criticism from people who don't really want to put into the sport but expect to be able to just turn up and race and then winge about clubs or individuals who have given up their time for free.
If anyone would like to discuss the finer details of how to run a none commercial Kart Club then feel free to e-mail through points@SYKC.co.uk.
