I went to Wombwell this weekend - not actually racing, just to watch as it is local and to buy some parts. I've been racing cars for 10 years and now back to karts as well for some fun so I have seen plenty. I have no axe to grind as I dont race at Wombwell and I am not commenting on any specific decisions, merely from a customer service viewpoint.
I wasnt even going to post anything until I saw this post and then I had to as an independant observer and for the sake of SYKC to improve things drastically. I was actually speechless on Saturday at how some staff treated competitors.
The staff (NOT including ladies in the office or marshalls on the posts) were simply a disgrace. The first thing I saw was the grid marshall being as rude as possible to the SNR Max grid when some were out of position - actually due to a kart not turning up, so not the drivers fault. I could only laugh as someone would have been perfectly in order to hit him with a 50mm axle. The way he spoke you would think it was F1.
The grid marshall and tramp guy should not be let near a kart circuit. Not letting newbies on a track (on a non-race Saturday) because they only have 3 numbers on or a piece of tape has fallen off a battery terminal I think is ridiculous and does not encourage anyone. A little bit of friendly advice would work better.
Maybe these guys are all SYKC can find but if not I would suggest a clear out of staff ASAP. I have just come back from the US where race officials are very friendly and the ethos is to help each other to enjoy it. I observed the grid marshall at SYKC trying to make everyones day as difficult as posible.
