I use to hurt my ribs every time I went out. I have a Tillet P1 and a Sparco protector, but the ribs still hurt no matter which one I wore.
Then I padded the bolts on the seat with some special foam used in gliders to absorb high vertical impacts, that helped quite a bit.
It wasn't until I changed Kart and could fit the seat into the supports without squeezing the seat in that the problem went away.
I have not had serious rib pain for 2 years now.
The other thing is not going back to soon after injury, when people say 6 weeks for ribs to heal, they mean 6 weeks. I use a simple method to decide if they are healed or not. If I push my fist into the ribs and it hurts and takes my breath away then they are not ready for racing. Wait a week, its quicker in the long run.
