I suggested over 40s running at 162Kg, not so much to gain any advantage [or even parity] with younger drivers, but just purely from a practical perspective. I really have no plans on loading my kart with almost 20Kg of lead as it's impractical for me [and the missus mainly (!)] to lift it around. I appreciate that many over 40 have accumulated a lot more than my 70Kg and so would struggle to get down to 162Kg... but that's valuable bragging rights in the motor racing excuses book after the end of a race. Plus they can probably hold their beer better than me too :-)
Like the others have said, when you get the wrong side of 40 [like me], racing is only about having a bit of craic and a get together with friends on the occasional weekend, for most of us. I don't want to be crashed into or driven over... and I wouldn't do that to anyone else I race against either. I don't care where I finish, I just want to have some decent dicing and come away at the end of the day with me and the kart in one piece.
Senior Max is populated by kids less than half my age and by and large they race for different reasons to mine. I respect that as I used to drive not too dissimilar to them myself 25 years ago. But I'm not prepared to do that today. The upshot is that I don't race very often nowadays which is a shame.
