Leaning forward to put weight over the front wheels would make sense if you had brakes on the front wheels, but you don't. If anything you'd want to lean back to put more weight on the wheels that are braking, but I wouldn't bother, the seat will prevent leaning back.
As for leaning, I'm afraid I'm going to have to completely disagree with rushy121. Never lean in, always lean out, as much as you can, all the time.
The rear axle does not have a differential, so the inside rear wheel will always be slipping against the ground and slowing you down when you corner.
In a proper kart this is avoided by lifting it off the ground, but you can't do that with a hire-kart so will always have the disadvantage of being slowed by the inside rear wheel.
To minimise that disadvantage, take as much weight off it as possible by leaning out, to let it slip more easily and slow you down less.
