Matt, I understand your point about having too much grip with certain tyres.
For example with a cadet (or bambino) I believe that if you ran super soft qualifying tyres (that a twin superkart ran for example) you would go slower, because it would make you bog out of the corners, it's debatable anyway until you try it.
Answering the question regarding what's easier to drive, I've driven rotax and cadets and now i'm in KZ2 and this year we've changed to the super soft Dunlop DEM tyre which is ridiculously soft.
It requires alot more skill in my opinion to drive a kart with this much grip as you have to be perfect with your steering input otherwise your front wheels will just hop when cornering and a little bit of too much steering input will scrub loads of speed off.
You also have to be physically fit to be fast, although my point of view is that stickier tyres this year are bad in KZ, it is a lot harder to drive.
