Just a small thought, did he get the scrutineers permission to change the helmet?

I know someone at Dunks was told on the dummy grid to change back to the helmet he had scrutineered, rather than the one he was wearing.

Talk about panic, with someone haring back to the pit to get the other one.

What had caught the scrutineer's eye was the fact that the helmet being worn had no scrut's label, but it was more comfortable than the new one. (It also turned out to be out of date, but that's a different matter)

But the rules of scrutineering apply to your race kit as well as the kart / engines. It would be a real pain if an unscrupulous rival dobbed you in for putting on a dry race suit after you beat him!
