We always get queries on our scales.
We have a set of four 25.5kg weights and show the person questioning the scales that they are accurate on each corner and the centre but they STILL think they are being hard done by and compare them with another track's scales where they weighed perhaps 102kg last week!
Yeah but did you see the check weights applied, NO!
Ours are set to weigh in 1/2 kilo increments so if you are under say 100kg limit, the next figure displayed would be 99.5kg.
You may be only 100gm under but under is under!
You race to the 'scales of the day' and you can ask for the check weights to be applied if necessary.
It is up to the scrutineer to let you go or not and any competitor should not be standing there watching another competitors weight check, the scrutineer should ask them to step away and let them do their job.
You can't have a tolerance, it must weigh X,Y,Z with the driver and gear.
It's very easy to come in underweight on a hot day, especially if you discard a sweaty T shirt between heats.
People do try it on by shedding weight if they have a grid position at the back in a heat and know that they probably won't get in the top 5 in a big grid.
They then drop back when they come into parc ferme and probably won't get checked.
