David.... that 'universal data machine' exists..... it's called: The Universe.
You can't afford it, you don't have the storage capacity.... and you don't have the power to analyse the data even if you COULD store it.
The Mychron stores more data than you currently analyse. That data is wasted. In this case, the data is NOT too much to STORE..... but it IS too much data to ANALYSE. How do I know that? Because you DON'T analyze all of it.... do you!
Even with a limited amount, in the Mychron, you don't have the time to anlyse that data. The quantity of data in the universe would take VASTLY longer than the existence of the universe to ANALYSE it.
I work in the REAL world with data. You don't spend long with it before ytou realise that your ability to use it IS finite but that the data can be expanded to INFINITE. One look at the REAL meanings within Chaos theory showed us that no earthly power CAN handle all the data produced by something simple. Data is, in 'human' terms, infinite. Our power, abilities and TIME to analyse it is NOT!
Taking the Mychron as an example. It stores data as 'snapshots' of the engines revs. The manufacturers chose and 'interval'between those snapshots that created enough data for our purposes. Let's pretend they chose 1 second intervals. However, it COULD take the snapshot every 1/100th of a second, or 1/1000th or 1/10000 of a second....and so on right down to Zeptoseconds. Theoretically, we could sample the data in Planc time intervals. So... if 1/100th of a second intervals were smaller than was deemed 'practical' or 'necessary' by the manufacturers of the Mychron, what was their reason for not going down to 1/10,000th? Because it would deliver....... too MUCH data.... for practical purposes.
You seem to be arguing from a theoretical point of view. I am taking the stance of the REAL world. In the real world, it really is STAGGERINGLY easy to end up with too much data!

You don't quite get what's going on with Paul, do you? It's his choice to post, it's your choice to read what he posts and that means it's also my choice to ignore the drivel if I so choose. When I stop rising to Paul's silliness, he'll stop posting.
I am delighted to discuss things with you becasue you are NOT doing it just as a wind up and you DON'T choose your point of view PURELY because it's contrary to MY position.
Have a look at the start of this thread. It began with me holding out the 'olive branch' to Paul saying that we AGREED on something.
You have mail.
