I think we're arguing roughly the same thing but drawing different conclusions.

Using your "reduction ad absurdum" technique, imagine a "Universe Data Acquisition Machine." It stores every possible piece of data in the universe at a cost of £200. It weighs 0.5kg and requires only a simple 9v battery. It's easily mountable to your kart steering wheel and easily configurable to show the data most useful to you. It's analysis tools are also easily configurable to show any set of data (or all data) in many different formats.

Now compare it to the MyChron4 at £200. It stores Engine RPM, Cylinder Head Temp and Laptimes with Splits where available. It weighs 0.5kg and is powereed by a simple 9V battery. It's easily mountable to your steering wheel and easily configurable to show the data most useful to you. It's analysis tools are also easily configurable to show the data collected in many different formats.

Both come at the same cost but one collects infinitely more data. Which one would you choose?

I'd choose the "Universe Data Acquisition Machine" because, whilst I may only analyse Engine RPM, Cylinder Head Temp and Laptimes, all that other information is there for "free" should I ever need it.

As you can see, the only difference between the two examples is that one collects infintely more data than the other (so much data I could never dream of analysing it all). Since I'm sure you would also choose the "Universe Data Acquisition Machine", you surely must agree that you cannot have "too much data," only too little time, money, skill to do anything with it?

That's the premise of my argument anyway.

Regarding your argument with PaulM, it's petty and childish (on both parts). I'll refer to PaulM's posts where I deem fit and you can choose to read them or not.
