hi all im a relative newbie to karting (started in nov)honda cadet. been on kt3 all over winter due to rubbish weather and my kid getting up to racing speed, first weekend on sl3 and got lots of conflicting advice on what tyre pressures to use. i know that you adjust the pressures to get optimum temp into your tyres. just wanted to know what sort of temp they should be? i saw a lot of people checking pressures when they came in. my kid was getting a nice graining on the tyres with them set to 25psi but a narrow contact patch so i let them down to 20psi.much better contact patch and nice graining as well. i stayed at this but as the temp droped at the end of the day i noticed the lap times were dropping 4-5 tenths a lap. i wondered why people check pressures rather than temp as the infa-red thermometers are real cheap now?
