We are now in our 3rd year of Honda Cadet MSA racing and I believe it is an ideal series to start in. The engines are virtually bomb proof and can be kept in tip top racing condition with minimum effort, lap the valves regularly to minimise leakage clean the carb and change the oil regularly and you have an engine that will deliver consistently. Because of this you can now work on the kart set up and the drivers lines to improve performance, you will know if the gearing, castor/camber, ride height, tyre pressures etc are making you quicker. The difference between a good SP engine and the "clubman" engines is usually only tenths of a second a lap but I am sure that the biggest improvement available will always be in the driver. The engines that change hands for silly money are valued because of their proven results but how much of that was due to set up and driver ? If you want a good tried and tested and recently improved chassis stick with a project one, the results speak for themselves. I know several of the quick drivers and their dads mentioned above and they all will agree that they learnt their racecraft in hondas.
