Something else to consider is whether you are there to race for fun or to win. If your out to win then its going to cost alot more than racing for fun and remember that those who are winning now have had alot more experience than you so don't expect to get there right away.
One thing I always remember ITPro, and others, saying is don't go out and buy a brand new kart, since this will be the first kart you will own you need to realise that its going to take time to learn how to drive it and set it up correctly. Your best off buying a reasonably cheap kart to start with which will allow you to learn your race craft and when it gets a bit battered it won't matter.
There are always people on the market place selling off retirement packages which include trailer and spares for under £1000. Just be careful of ebay if you don't know much about karts, saying that I have picked up a good kart or two in the past from there
