well without looking at figures,

in the 90's all the super one classes were that well supported they had to have qualifying rounds with 30-40 not even making it into the series, and in the series there was enough entrants to have a and b finals.

i could go on , but you make an interesting point is the amount of circuits now making a diff but i think the catchment area of the circuits with the exception of pfi is the same as it always has been so i personnaly dont think its down to that in any large percentage
