Our son just took his Arks test on Saturday and he had raced for the last 3 years non-MSA.
It cost us -
MSA Pack - Ł45
Test itself - Ł85
Practice Fee at track for Saturday - Ł40
Race fee for the Sunday - Ł40
Membership of the MSA club (half price as end of year) - Ł22.50

The application form has a unique number on and is in the pack so I think you do need to buy the pack. Also you do need to watch the DVD a few times before taking the test.

So not cheap!
