"and from "my experience" it has prevented hyperextension in crashes Ive had while using it due to my helmet contacting with the leatt and not allowing my neck to travel any further. "
It's the classic confusion of the concept of EVIDENCE.....
I'll give you a SIMILAR example and you should get the point....
A man travelled by train every day. The train guard noticed that he was throwing newspaper torn in small pieces out of the window as he arrived at Salisbury. The conversation went as follows:-
Guard: "Why are you doing that?" Man: "To keep the Tigers away" Guard: "..... But there ARE no tigers near Salsibury" Man: "See....! It works, doesn't it.....?!!"
Now..... in the face of the man's 'evidence'.... try to prove that the newspaper was NOT keeping the tigers away.......
***********
On 89cc's 'experience', how do we KNOW that the reason he suffered neck injuries BEFORE wearing a neck brace and did NOT afterwards... was N*O*T because he wore R*E*D UNDERPANTS on the day of that first accident but 'spoiled' them in the accident and now only races in B*L*U*E underpants.....?
We have AS MUCH 'evidence' for the 'underpants' theory as we do the 'neck brace' theory......
The point is that such 'anecdotes' are FAR too easy to confuse WITH 'evidence'..... which they are NOT!
Wear what you damned well like...... Until we see EVIDENCE which convinces the MSA that neck braces help, then I'll follow their 'lead'..... while they neither recommend 'Blue Underpants' nor 'Neck Braces'..... I'll treat BOTH 'theories' with scepticism...... You can choose to do what YOU want...... I don't want to BAN you from wearing Blue Underpants, either!
However, if you, or ANYONE else starts recommending Blue Underpants as a life saver..... then I'll (probably) leap in to try to put a 'more-realistic' view on the discussion about pants-colour.....
