Look......
Let's start simply.....
The MSA (and it's predecessors) had very FEW problems recommending helmets. It had even less problems recommending full-face helmets. They also had few problems recommending the current race suits, gloves, non-leather boots..... All these were simple and DEMONSTRABLY effective safety devices.... This is consistent throughout the WORLD of karting..... helmets (as a the 'poster boy' for this subject) are not only 'recommended' but COMPULSORY.......
The karting neck brace has been available for YEARS.... The latest ones (E.g., the Leatt and the Valhalla) for quite some time.
People, like Ballhatchet etc. tell us they do a FABULOUS job and that it has saved them from untold injury.......
...... and yet...... our controlling bodies are NOT yet willing to even give an OPINION on whether we should wear one.....
Now..... they had NO problems with making helmets COMPULSORY..... but, THOUGHOUT THE WORLD, almost ZERO 'motor-sports-bodies' have even ENDORSED the wearing of a neck brace in ANY motorsport.... (I know that one or two countries had done so by the time I last looked, February this year)
Put simply..... I have NOT done the 'tests'..... any more than YOU have..... The fact that the MSA HAVE N*O*T chosen to endorse them when they have made OTHER safety devices C*O*M*P*U*L*S*O*R*Y on MUCH less evidence (side pods, chain guards, chassis protectors on AND off, extended rear-bumpers, plastic rear bumpers, etc., etc..) should make you ask a VERY simple question....... what the HELL C*O*U*L*D it be that has made them RETICENT about recommending them in karts.......???? Use your IMAGINATION and THINK about it..... It sure as HELL is NOT a 'cost' thing..... they have been recommending LOADS of things which have increased cost ACROSS the BOARD...... in comparision, the neck-brace is CHEAP...... so it AIN'T that!!!!!
If they FAILED to endorse crash helmet usage, they would (probably) have been SUED by anyone injured who was NOT wearing one....... so.... why are they *N**O**T* making neck braces similarly compulsory...... or even RECOMMENDING them?
The MSA have been DELIGHTED to receommend the wearing of the HAN device in cars with seat belts..... All the things that COULD be reasons for NOT recommending them have been put aside.... the MSA seem to LIKE the Han Device, etc..
If those who have NOT studied the safety aspects (like 89cc or Ballhatchet) were the MSA, then they WOULD be recommending them.....
....... however, the MSA H*A*V*E looked at the data and, so far, have NOT chosen to recommend them...
..... How strange......!
Why do they 'recommend' a Helmet, suit, chain guards, side pods and Han devices (in car racing etc., etc.) ..... but chose NOT to recommend neck braces in karting......
Just try THINKING about it!
The kindest thing one can say about the MSA's current stance is that they remain to be CONVINCED that the neck brace does any GOOD at all..... If it WAS as 'simple' as 89cc and Ballhatchet suggest....... SURELY..... the MSA would be making them COMPULSORY.....?!?!
