Other sports seem to be more proactive. Our boy has worn a leatt since they came on the market (but we imported it from S.africa as no one in the UK stock it)
eventers often use I think its called e2air (something like it) - It saved my boss big time- no doubt.

Any view on the differing neck braces that have arrived in the past couple of years?
