I have only been in karting for a short time, but i firmly beleive that make the karts and "safer" and the driving standards will deteriorate accordingly. Having spent the best part of a decade racing motocross, i am amazed by the amount of physical contact there is in karting. In mx its that dangerous already that you try to avoid other riders at all costs. Whilst blocking etc is an acceptable part of MX it is virtually always at low speeds and has normally no consequence. Karts appear so "safe" that using my kart as an additional brake at the end of a 60mph straight seemed a perfectly logical thing for him to do. As he had no preconception of danger to himself it obviously didnt occur to him that me hitting a barrier at 50+ mph may smart a little. The issue of safety in karting has nothing to do with the machines being unsafe, its the bash happy driving that seems endemic in the sport. I dont think that its need to be made zero contact, i just think that the worst offenders need to be weeded out (from all levels) and let the rest of us get on with racing with may be a friendly kiss on a bumper now and again. Just to say you care!!! :-)
