It has alot to do with age.

For example my boy will soon be 8, there is no way he could ever keep up with a 12 year old.
Also my daughter races ministox and to watch her in March last year was unbelievable, couldnt change gear, stalling, bunny hopping, plopping herself if she had to do a clutch start. Now 18 months on she actually took the mini round Birmingham Wheels a shade faster than i did and i have raced for years !!! Its all about experience and that can only be gained by starting from the back and chasing everyone !!
