Alan, Buying a Honda would not be a waste of time but it really depends on what you are aiming for. If your lad is just starting then time in the seat is going to be the most critical factor and it won't matter much what you go for - Honda, WTP or Comer. If you are aiming beyond club racing then all 3 classes have a national series although Comer also has the British Championship. I believe that 2010 is the last year for the comer w60 as the British Championship engine and then it is out for tender. If the W60 is not retained then you could be looking at a chasnge of engine for 2011 although it would probably still continue at club level for a while. Similarly the future of WTP is uncertain as the engines are no longer being made but there are lots around. The other factor to consider is your own knowledge of karting and that is where talking to cadet dads should help to see which class will best suit your needs at least for the first few months. Although comer is the most popular class around the midlands area a good driver on WTP or Honda casn aquit themselves well.
