If you really feel that your life or that of your child is worth so little then the scrutineers can not stop you taking risks.
Helmets are inspected as part of the safety checks and, quite rightly, the scrutineer will reject a helmet that has damage. they will also inspect a helmet of a driver seen to have been involved in an incident likely to cause damage - like a kart turning over.
If you then decide to have a cheap repair and paint job then you may well fool the scrutineers but the real FOOL would be YOU. You could also carry two helmets - one in pristine condition for presenting to the scrutineer pre-race and a badly damaged one to use in your race.
Going back to the original post, mattman talked of having the helmet x-ray tested and then, only if it was pronounced safe, touched up.However he then decided that the cost of all that was not a great saving on a new helmet - overall, a parent who was acting responsibly all the way.
