Some of you are, quite clearly, BONKERS!
We are talking about a helmet that the suppliers would NOT repair, even if the X-Ray shows the helmet to be 'safe' and we are talking about his son's HEAD!
Personally, I think my son's safety equipment is the first and over-riding concern. Compared to the rest of your karting equipment, I feel that this one should be 'priority number 1'.....
However, I amd SURE RoadRat would love to take those extra chances with his son's safety JUST to prove it was all 'marketing hype'.... Some of us would rather NOT gamble such stakes on SOCIALIST TRIPE!
Put brutally, if you don't want to spend a fairly SMALL sum of money (when compared to the sum total of rest of your expenditure) enuring your son is safe...... consider going fishing instead! It's where you BELONG!
I am delighted to see the original questioner (mattman) has seen sense!
In my time, I've writen off 4 helmets and each has pride of place in my collection of karting memorabilia..... I never considered using ANY of them after an 'incident'...
