It's simply down to the tyres. The old tkm tyres were always quicker new. The new ones definitely need a few sessions before they are at their best. I've got 5 meeting old tyres that only just now slower than a new set. The new set took at least a full practise day to be as quick (that was back to back testing to compare). I'm still not sure there's much in it. The new tkm tyres are very strange beasts and seem to hang on a long time, even after a lot of rubber removal. It's a VERY good tyre.
