Exactly Ross that's because you're moving forward out of the seat when you hop a kerb then as you come back into the seat your ribs catch the rim of the seat. This is how most rib injuries happen. Prevention is better than cure... i.e. something to wedge you into the seat so you don't come out at all - hence the Rib Cage - have a chat to others using it... its better than a rib protector.
