What to look for when buying a kart?

I have been watching these forums for a while now, watching all the debate about the new TKM rules for this year, and have decided I want to give TKM a go later this year. Rotax is out of my budget. My local tracks are probably Whilton and Shenington, Rissington's not too far either, but I'd probably use Whilton or Shenington mostly. I've seen both have good grids for TKM.

I am going to try and come down to Whilton Mill next weekend if I can.

I will probably start practising/ARKS test/Racing in june time as I'm going away for April and May. (I'm 22, a whisker under 6ft, and weigh about 68kg). I've been thinking it may be a better idea to be looking out for a kart in the next few weeks as there may be more about at better prices than right in the mid season June time?

In which case I'm keeping an eye out on the Market place, I've been given advice retirement sales (or sales with tools and spares) are a good starting point for those without any. I was wondering what other advice you would give to look out for when buying a 2nd hard kart?

I have a budget of probably £1600- £1800.

From what I've seen re the CIK vs TKM debate there doesn't seem to be much difference atm, and at my level it probably wouldn't matter anyway. What do you think would be better with my size (68kg, just under 6ft) and budget?

Also what things should I be looking out for that could spell trouble/rip off the kart, and or engine?

Finally, if I did end up going for 2 seperate sales, a chassis sale and an engine sale, what should I look out for? Is there any trouble sometimes fitting some engines to some chassis or engine mounts that can spell a costly mistake or anything like that?

Like I said, I am going to try and make it to Whilton next weekend. Thanks for your help!
