"I used only a magnetic lead set to 1 split. I was initially using 2 as I was told there are 2 strips at buckmore but it was giving funny times"

Be clear as to the difference between splits and strips.

A split refers to a split time. If you have a single unbroken lap, there are no split times but you need one magnetic strip in the track to signal the change from one lap to another.

If you have a single split time the one unbroken lap is split into two . This requires two strips in teh surface.

So if you are asked to set sPlits, it is always one less than the number of sTrips in the track.

The second issue with split times is the question of 'obscuring time'. Obscuring time means that for a certain time after crossing a strip no other strip will be recognised. So if you have a 45 second lap with two strips in the surface, one at start finish and one at 30 seconds, if you have set the obscuring time at 31 seconds, the system will not see the second strip.

If you have told the system that there are two strips in every lap, you cross the start, miss the second, record the start finish as strip2 and continue on to strip 2 as teh end of the lap, thus getting a 75 second lap.

However you immediately miss the start finish (still obscured)pick up the 2nd strip as strip 2 and the start finish as the endoflap...60 seconds.

Then you should start getting correct laptimes.

Of course, if the dummygrid feeds in after the start finish, the whole thing is different again.
