You're right a cheaper option than Comer is Honda Cadet. But the top drivers still have what amount to Factory engines, probably more so than Comer, and once again the more you spend the faster you go.
The point is though, when you go racing you still do not know whether it is your drivers skill training and commitment compared with the others, or his factory chassis, engine and mechanic that is giving the result. Many probably don't care as long as they win.
IMO especially in Cadet racing this is the way that the Karting business likes it. After all, most parent have aspirations of some sort for their kids and if they don't win or do well they need excuses, real or imagined to justify it. If everything was equal, teams would not keep the cash cows of rich parents with mediocre kids.
Once as parent you get beyond these aspirations, what you want is a class where you have just as much chance, based on the equipment, to do well as the next person without spending a fortune. Only EasyKart in the UK and Subaru in France delivers this.
