I'm sorry Nik but we are talking about karting here, not F1. It is nonsense to compare the two.
How many people in karters use a Racelogic Vbox on their kart?
How long ago did you use a £20k GPS system at university? The technology has moved on rapidly over the past few years, and research level instruments are priced at a premium in any case.
If you read my previous posting the 0.5m "error" related to 5 laps on 5 different days that were all within a 0.5m band at clipping points. This 0.5m will clealy not be entirely down to error in the GPS unit but also include variations in track postion which are down to the driver.
My own practical, real world, experience with the M4 GPS is that it is a very valuable tool particularly as I am unable to stand on every corner of the track observing every line personally.
Perhaps you qualify, i.e. quantify, what you mean by "massively inaccurate" and "speeds can be terrible"?
As Lord Kelvin said "...when you cannot express it in numbers, your knowledge is of a meagre and unsatisfactory kind..." so let's have some numbers please.
