Racedriver, thanks for the confirmation. I personally don't bother with Google Earth, as I find their images too inaccurate. To my knowledge the high resolution images that you zoom in to on GE are photos taken from aircraft. This is very obvious on some images as the sides of buildings are very clearly visible, i.e, the photos are not taken from directly above, which leads to a mismatch when compared to GPS co-ordinate data.
Some proportion of the 0.5m variation I mention in my check of data is very likely due to my son fine tuning his lines over last season, and adjustments he may have made following another kart into a corner, or on exit.
My son is now extremely consistant in his laps and I'm sure that on a clear track the lap traces would be very close indeed.
