I agree that M4 GPS is not great for lines relative to a particular track, but the problem is more that Google earth is inaccurate rather than GPS .

The GPS unit is scanning 3D global positional co-ordinates at 10x per second from up to 9 satellites. If you zoom into a trace you can see the individual points every 1/10th of a sec. I believe lap on lap comparison is pretty damn accurate. Google earth is useless - it uses ariel photos, taken from a plane, and mostly at a slight angle which introduces distortion.
