The MSA have not said that you need a letter from school to go and practice at your local track. That is down to you and the school. This is aimed at the national championship series and mainly S1 and FKS where the majority of people do take advantage of the optional Friday practice day. The overseas round of FKS has always been during the summer school holidays so it would not be an issue. For these two series the MSA licence will apply on the Saturday and Sunday - in the case of S1 the racing starts on Saturday afternoon and for FKS in 2010 all the meetings are double headers. As you rightly say, the Friday practice is not under MSA regs but they appear to have used their influence to get S1 and FKS to put the school letter into the regulations. Most parents probably already obtain the school agreement and I would see this just as the MSA, as the governing body of our sport, just acknowledging the importnace of education. Not really a big deal.
