where abouts in the south are you?? whats your local track? how old is your son? what kart has he got?
to be honest i started karting this year and thought id try it out on a car park or something like that first, but i didnt and its the best decision i made..theres nothing like geting out there for real, bear it in mind he wont be the only novice out there, there will be lots of others at this time of year, so other drivers will realise hes a novice...it wont be a problem... you will find it very difficult to find somewhere that he could try his karts, short of breaking into tescos car park!!....if you do want to go down the whole car park route, if your friends work on an industrial estate it might be an idea to see if he can practice there, but id advise against it...
....if your worried that he cant drive a kart at all...sit with him in the garage, go through everything, from starting the kart, brakes, accelerator, turning it on and off, he can sit in the kart and pretend to go around the track as a simulation...and when he gets out on track he will pick it up pretty quickly
