I have been reading with interest the comments on these pages and would like to put a few things straight. The DYKC was welcome at my circuit but never quite made the numbers I and the club was expecting. The financial arrangement was for the club, for the first year to pay what it could afford, we did however, believe we would take more on practice fees than we ever did, we averaged 30 practicing and the maximum was 55 when the gearbox championship visited the circuit. A circuit situated in the north- east would never get the midweek corporate events enjoyed by the southern circuits, and this year was even less than usual. We committed 11 Sundays and 5 hours on the Saturdays prior to the events to the DYKC, which is approximately 20% of weekend availability throughout the year. This of course had a financial impact.
I was happy to continue the arrangement and in fact had invested heavily in new brochures, a stand at Kart Mania to promote the new TV series that we would be under writing to promote the club, but to be honest I was very disappointed at the lack of commitment from the club as all other major clubs had their stand staffed with their committee, with programmes and advertising their next year's meetings and the enthusiasum shown by clubs such as Rowrah PFI and many more made me question this clubs ambition. But that was not the only reason for cancelling the DYKC season.
I also attended a meeting with George Robinson fellow circuit operators and club representatives from across the North of England and Wales and came away totally disillusioned with the direction club kart racing is heading with the suggestion of more classes and expense. The people at the meeting had a genuine love for the sport and obviously committed much time and effort in keeping the clubs running.
I feel my time and money is better served promoting pro-kart racing especially endurance which offers great value for money and easy access.
I will welcoming Easy Kart back to the circuit and any MSA club wishing to organise MSA racing at this circuit as long as they can pay the appropriate fees, the same as car sprints, rallys who also use the venue.
If anyone would like to talk to me more in depth about my decision you can email me your details at admin@teessidekarting.co.uk and I will contact you personnally. I will not be following up on any more of the comments written on this page and wish all drivers who supported the racing last year, good luck for next season and hope to see you practicing and maybe taking part in our Saturday night sprints which will continue in 2010.
Regards Bob Pope
