Marc,
I don't know what your helmet has been painted with so it may pay you to contact the suppliers and ask them.
However, I removed paint VERY carefully with thinners and white spirit from a helmet I was painting, not sure this method would work on all paint though.
If you are going to do it, test on a very small inconspicuous area first
