I can't say for certain, pit lane gossip at the time was simply that he didn't want to support a rival kart companies class (I'm fairly sure he didn't homologate a chassis for a time). The club finally ran TKM in '93 (without doing an archeological dig to get to my old Karting mags & programmes I can't be sure but this may have coincided with Reg giving up the club chairmanship to Alan Kilbey). But that coupled with the clubs adoption of different engine & tyre regs for the 100 National classes that it ran, meant that drivers were left with the choice of racing at Rye or everywhere else. Big as the club was at that time, the outcome was inevitable. '94 was when I did TKM at Rye, unfortunately the theft of the kart from my garage at the end of that season kept me out of karting for a few years. I don't think I've been to Rye since last years London Cup, so I'll get along to a meeting sometime.
