1. Use subtle for the adjective. It describes what is subtle, for example:

* The dresses are all wonderful but the colours have subtle differences.

2. Use subtly as the adverb. It describes the manner in which something is done:

* Subtly hinting that I had better get my grammar right this time, he erased the explanation from the blackbord.

3. Use subtlety as the noun. For example:

* My English teacher is not exactly renowned for her subtlety.

So no, not how I meant it, but I take your point.

Rememeber, if you see a dyslexic with a gnu, be afraid.
