I presume you mean 6mm on the grid of the laser?
The lumpy feel is caused by the bearings in the stubs.
It's caused by the pounding the bearings get on kerbs and because they stay mostly in the same place and never revolve, the races get pitted by the balls.
Change them anyway as they are dead cheap and can be quite awkward to remove if they break up.
Try lifting the stub axles up and down firmly while the lasers are on, to see if there is any play.
You may have a bent stub axle and you can check this by removing them both and placing them back to back on the bearing faces and checking that the gap between the axles is the same all the way along.
I suspect it will taper.
I presume you haven't got the camber caster settings set differently on one side?
