If you have the patience to do it so that it becomes natural, here's a bit of advice. As Aztech says, it makes the breathing process a whole lot easier, using less energy, but any serious sports person will tell you to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Doing this controls the rate that your body can accept the transfer of oxygen, actually using more of what is being taken in. The more you puff and pant through your mouth, the less oxygen you're actually taking on board.
Try this tactical breathing exercise. Take a breath in through your nose for two seconds, hold for two seconds and out through your mouth for two seconds. When you're comfortable with this move up to three seconds, then to four. You'll be amazed at how quickly your body recovers and how quickly your heart rate drops!
